Tensile Strength
Tensile jaws with an "8" shape (or figure-8) are specialized gripping fixtures used in material testing machines to determine the tensile strength of hydraulic cement mortars, resin-based mortars, and concrete. These jaws are designed to hold "briquette" samples, which are molded in a "dumb-bell" or "figure-8" shape to ensure failure occurs at the narrow, center section rather than at the grips.
